January 2020 Newsletter

Welcome to Millsy’s, The Oak & Street newsletter. We hope this monthly blog will be a nice way to pass on some lovely seasonal recipes, wine picks & information on ‘what’s on’ across the sites, including offers and events happening in the near future…

ECCL - Earlsdon Carnegie Community Library announced as Millsy’s, The Oak & Street’s main charity for 2020!

2019 was a great year for Earlsdon Library. Fantastic support from Earlsdon locals donating their time and money to keep an amazing community service open meant the ECCL was able to stand on its own two feet and put in place the building blocks for the future!

Last year Millsy’s, The Oak and Street hosted many events in support of the library including Farmers Markets, Pub Quizzes and Volunteer events and we’re excited to build on this in 2020 with the first joint event already in place for 9th February!

Wine Tasting Earlsdon Carnegie Community Library in conjunction with Millsy’s are holding a wine tasting event on 9th February from 7pm upstairs at Millsy’s.  A trained sommelier will guide you through the wines and a fun evening will be had by all! All profits will go to the library, tickets can be obtained from the library or Millsy’s.

Street vegan mock duck pancakes  crispy fried banana blossom in hoisin sauce, cucumber and spring onion salad, sesame nut crumb, served with Asian pancakes

Banana blossom joins seitan and jackfruit as a trending plant-based meat substitute that is quickly gaining popularity. Also known as banana heart, it is a tear-shaped purple-skinned flower which grows at the end of a banana fruit cluster and has traditionally been used in South-East Asian and Indian cooking.

With its chunky, flaky texture and the ability to take on flavours when marinated, it is an ideal substitute for various dishes such as fish & chips - or aromatic hoisin duck as used in this weeks special at Street!
